Hence the soul is nothing intrinsically real, nor is the body either; each of them exists in time only in and through the other. The only element of an individual thing that is intrinsically real is the identity of soul and body.. Furthermore, the soul is not anything that is intrinsically real, since it exists only through its relative opposition to the body.
