What the world needs is not dogma but an attitude of scientific inquiry combined with a belief that the torture of millions is not desirable, whether inflicted by Stalin or by a Deity imagined in the likeness of the believer.
We must all die. But that I can save him from days of torture, that is what I feel as my great and ever new privelege. Pain is a more terrible lord of mankind than even death himself.
